Okay I am AMAZED. I got rid of 9/10 books this week. That is a record and I am shocked that so many books I don’t want to read are clumped together.

Have y’all read any of these books? Should I keep some of the ones I got rid of? Let me know!!

The Honest Booktuber (with a twist)

Leelynn tagged me in this about a month ago and I totally did not forget about it until I went to do another post she tagged me in… Anyway! This is what she had to say about her post “this one is going to be a little different because this started from a Booktube tag, but I am going to change up the questions a bit to fit bloggers. I found this from Myonna Reads, and the original tag (with all the questions listed) is from Harriet Rosie.”

Thank you Leelynn for always thinking of me and tagging me. I’m half convinced my blog would fall apart without you! Now let’s get into it!

Have you ever lied about reading a book?

the office yes GIF

Dumplin’ has been sitting on my “currently reading” for probably about 2 months. I’m not reading it.

Have you ever avoided a book because of controversy around the content/author?

Jeff Goldblum What GIF by The Late Late Show with James Corden

So since I’m still newish to the book blogging community, I haven’t seen too much “don’t read this book/this author.” But should it come up, I am willing to hear out why we shouldn’t and will probably heed the community’s advice.

Have you ever been sent a book for free and not disclosed it?

No GIF

Okay so first things first, that would be so rude. I’m pretty sure it’s a rule with ARCs that we have to and even it is a gift from someone I know, I always mention it because I am grateful!

Have you ever bought a book with no intention of reading it?

alice in wonderland GIF

I literally bought a copy of Alice in Wonderland to take to our character breakfast in Disney where I will meet Alice and The Mad Hatter so they can sign it but I haven’t read it and I really don’t want to.

Have you ever got caught up in bookblogger drama?

Oh No Deal With It GIF by DreamWorks Animation

I really haven’t had any negative interactions with book blogging other than stressing myself out.

Have you ever had a hate comment, and did you respond?

I Dont Remember Golden Girls GIF by TV Land

If I have, I don’t remember it. Honestly days just kind of blur together. I do get A LOT of spam though.

Have you ever made a post just because you knew it would get views?

old 30 rock GIF

Nope. I feel like I barely know what I’m doing as it is so I just kinda post what I want to. Do I hope it gets likes and views? Of course. But I haven’t posted anything drama-like.

If you could go back to the beginning of your blog, would you do anything differently?

be prepared the lion king GIF

Honestly, I would have made sure I was set up completely before I started posting and I wish I had started it sooner than I did.

Are there any blogs you wish you could be more like?

bones on fox be you GIF by Bones

So while yes, there are people I aspire to be like (whether they have really cool theme or post more often or whatever it is), this community wouldn’t work if we were all identical. If everyone was always reading the same books or had the same theme or posted the same thing, I would get so bored. I like that we can all relate and connect while still being ourselves.

What’s something you love about your blog?

michelle obama let me live my life out loud GIF by Obama

This blog gives me a space to be me. Out loud and unapologetically so. And if someone doesn’t like it or me, they don’t have to stay.

Again thank you so much to Leelynn for always tagging me and including me. I feel like I say this every time but you are amazing and I am so glad I met you!

Books about Hamilton

I’ve been pretty open about my love for Hamilton but in case you didn’t know, Hi! My name is Dana and I love the musical Hamilton. I listen to it at least 3/4 times a week on my way to work. I would lay down my life for Eliza and Angelica is the person I want to be when I grow up.

So a month ago, when I was going through my TBR on Goodreads, I realized I had a few books (mostly fiction but some non-fiction) about Hamilton I wanted to read. So I decided to share them (and my thoughts for some) with you! I sorted this into books I’ve read and books I still need to read!

Books I’ve read

35068727

The colonies are in the throes of the Revolutionary War and caught in the midst of spies, traitors, Loyalists and Patriots, is the charming, quick-witted Peggy Schuyler—youngest of the famed Schuyler sisters and daughter of General Philip Schuyler. Her eldest sister Angelica, the “thief of hearts,” is known for her passion and intelligence, while kind, sweet Eliza has a beauty so great, it only outshone by her enormous heart. Though often in the shadows of her beloved sisters, Peggy is talented in her own right—fluent in French, artistically talented, and brave beyond compare.

When a flirtatious aide-de-camp to General Washington named Alexander Hamilton writes an eloquent letter to Peggy asking for her help in wooing the earnest Eliza, Peggy is skeptical but finds herself unable to deny such an impassioned plea. Thus begins her own journey into the Revolution!

My rating: 2-2.5/5
I have a lot of thoughts on this book and will be sharing in a review shortly so I don’t want to say too much.

Hamilton was a bastard son, raised on the Caribbean island of St. Croix. He went to America to pursue his education. Along the way he became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing—and unlikely—heroes. Adored by Washington, hated by Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the American Revolution.

She was the well-to-do daughter of one of New York’s most exalted families—feisty, adventurous, and loyal to a fault. When she met Alexander, she fell head over heels. She pursued him despite his illegitimacy, and loved him despite his infidelity. In 1816 (two centuries ago), she shamed Congress into supporting his seven orphaned children. Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton started New York’s first orphanage. The only “founding mother” to truly embrace public service, she raised 160 children in addition to her own.

My rating: 3/5

r more grossly misunderstood than Alexander Hamilton. Chernow’s biography gives Hamilton his due and sets the record straight, deftly illustrating that the political and economic greatness of today’s America is the result of Hamilton’s countless sacrifices to champion ideas that were often wildly disputed during his time. “To repudiate his legacy,” Chernow writes, “is, in many ways, to repudiate the modern world.” Chernow here recounts Hamilton’s turbulent life: an illegitimate, largely self-taught orphan from the Caribbean, he came out of nowhere to take America by storm, rising to become George Washington’s aide-de-camp in the Continental Army, coauthoring The Federalist Papers, founding the Bank of New York, leading the Federalist Party, and becoming the first Treasury Secretary of the United States.Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power. His is a Hamilton far more human than we’ve encountered before—from his shame about his birth to his fiery aspirations, from his intimate relationships with childhood friends to his titanic feuds with Jefferson, Madison, Adams, Monroe, and Burr, and from his highly public affair with Maria Reynolds to his loving marriage to his loyal wife Eliza. And never before has there been a more vivid account of Hamilton’s famous and mysterious death in a duel with Aaron Burr in July of 1804.

My thoughts: I struggle to rate non-fiction books simply because facts are facts and you can’t argue with them (at least you can’t argue and win) but this is one of the more popular Hamilton biographies. I read it about a year ago and I don’t remember being bored by it.

33040829

Discover the incredible true story behind the Tony Award-winning musical – Hamilton’s early years in the Caribbean; his involvement in the Revolutionary War; and his groundbreaking role in government, which still shapes American government today. Easy to follow, this gripping account of a founding father and American icon features illustrations, maps, timelines, infographics, and additional information ranging from Hamilton’s own writings to facts about fashion, music, etiquette and custom of the times, including best historical insults and the etiquette of duels.

My thoughts: Again, I really don’t like to rate non-fiction books but if you own this, TAKE THE DUST COVER OFF BECAUSE THE BOOK IS SO BEAUTIFUL.

A general’s daughter…

Coming of age on the perilous frontier of revolutionary New York, Elizabeth Schuyler champions the fight for independence. And when she meets Alexander Hamilton, Washington’s penniless but passionate aide-de-camp, she’s captivated by the young officer’s charisma and brilliance. They fall in love, despite Hamilton’s bastard birth and the uncertainties of war.

A founding father’s wife…

But the union they create—in their marriage and the new nation—is far from perfect. From glittering inaugural balls to bloody street riots, the Hamiltons are at the center of it all—including the political treachery of America’s first sex scandal, which forces Eliza to struggle through heartbreak and betrayal to find forgiveness.

The last surviving light of the Revolution…

When a duel destroys Eliza’s hard-won peace, the grieving widow fights her husband’s enemies to preserve Alexander’s legacy. But long-buried secrets threaten everything Eliza believes about her marriage and her own legacy. Questioning her tireless devotion to the man and country that have broken her heart, she’s left with one last battle—to understand the flawed man she married and the imperfect union he could never have created without her…

This is book one in a trilogy.

As battle cries of the American Revolution echo in the distance, servants flutter about preparing for one of New York society’s biggest events: the Schuylers’ grand ball. Descended from two of the oldest and most distinguished bloodlines in New York, the Schuylers are proud to be one of their fledgling country’s founding families, and even prouder still of their three daughters—Angelica, with her razor-sharp wit; Peggy, with her dazzling looks; and Eliza, whose beauty and charm rival that of both her sisters, though she’d rather be aiding the colonists’ cause than dressing up for some silly ball.

Still, she can barely contain her excitement when she hears of the arrival of one Alexander Hamilton, a mysterious, rakish young colonel and General George Washington’s right-hand man. Though Alex has arrived as the bearer of bad news for the Schuylers, he can’t believe his luck—as an orphan, and a bastard one at that—to be in such esteemed company. And when Alex and Eliza meet that fateful night, so begins an epic love story that would forever change the course of American history

than Saunders, once among General Washington’s most valued spies, now lives in disgrace, haunting the taverns of Philadelphia. An accusation of treason has long since cost him his reputation and his beloved fiancée, Cynthia Pearson, but at his most desperate moment he is recruited for an unlikely task–finding Cynthia’s missing husband. To help her, Saunders must serve his old enemy, Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, who is engaged in a bitter power struggle with political rival Thomas Jefferson over the fragile young nation’s first real financial institution: the Bank of the United States.

Meanwhile, Joan Maycott is a young woman married to another Revolutionary War veteran. With the new states unable to support their ex-soldiers, the Maycotts make a desperate gamble: trade the chance of future payment for the hope of a better life on the western Pennsylvania frontier. There, amid hardship and deprivation, they find unlikely friendship and a chance for prosperity with a new method of distilling whiskey. But on an isolated frontier, whiskey is more than a drink; it is currency and power, and the Maycotts’ success attracts the brutal attention of men in Hamilton’s orbit, men who threaten to destroy all Joan holds dear.

As their causes intertwine, Joan and Saunders–both patriots in their own way–find themselves on opposing sides of a daring scheme that will forever change their lives and their new country.

As the daughter of a respected general, Elizabeth Schuyler is accustomed to socializing with dignitaries and soldiers. But no visitor to her parents’ home has affected her so strongly as Alexander Hamilton, a charismatic, ambitious aide to George Washington. They marry quickly, and despite the tumult of the American Revolution, Eliza is confident in her brilliant husband and in her role as his helpmate. But it is in the aftermath of war, as Hamilton becomes one of the country’s most important figures, that she truly comes into her own.

In the new capital, Eliza becomes an adored member of society, respected for her fierce devotion to Hamilton as well as her grace. Behind closed doors, she astutely manages their expanding household, and assists her husband with his political writings. Yet some challenges are impossible to prepare for. Through public scandal, betrayal, personal heartbreak, and tragedy, she is tested again and again. In the end, it will be Eliza’s indomitable strength that makes her not only Hamilton’s most crucial ally in life, but his most loyal advocate after his death, determined to preserve his legacy while pursuing her own extraordinary path through the nation they helped shape together.

38532153. sy475

Eliza Hamilton: The Extraordinary Life and Times of The Wife of Alexander Hamilton follows Eliza through her early years in New York, into the ups and downs of her married life with Alexander, beyond the aftermath of his tragic murder, and finally to her involvement in many projects that cemented her legacy as one of the unsung heroes of our nation’s early days. Featuring Mazzeo’s “impeccable research and crafting” (Library Journal), and perfect for fans of the richly detailed historical books by Ron Chernow and Erik Larson, Eliza Hamilton is the captivating account of the woman behind the famous man.

26164488. sy475

After the war, Hamilton engages in nation building. Like all mission-driven men, he is preoccupied, often absent, and not the best provider. The trials of making ends meet and raising their ever-growing troop of children falls to Betsy, who accomplishes her task with grace and devotion.

Conflict is built into their marriage. It does not simply spring from Alexander’s agonizing childhood experience of bastardy, abuse, and abandonment. To quote Alexander Pope, Hamilton’s favorite poet:

“And hence one Master Passion in the breast
like Aaron’s serpent, swallows up all the rest…”

Betsy’s passion is Alexander. Alexander’s passion is America.

Though Hamilton’s financial acumen and political courage is crucial to the formation and survival of our nation, his star sets quickly. Disillusioned, political power broken, his adored eldest son killed in a duel, Hamilton goes to his own famous duel with Aaron Burr in the spirit of those noble Romans he so steadfastly admires, preferring death to dishonor.

6294892

In curiously parallel lives, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr were both orphaned at an early age. Both were brilliant students who attended college–one at Princeton, the other at Columbia–and studied law.

Both were young staff officers under General George Washington, and both became war heroes. Politics beckoned them, and each served in the newly formed government of the fledgling nation. Why, then, did these two face each other at dawn in a duel that ended with death for one and opprobrium for the other?

25065625

In the summer of 1804, two of America’s most eminent statesmen squared off, pistols raised, on a bluff along the Hudson River. Why would two such men risk not only their lives but the stability of the young country they helped forge?

In War of Two, John Sedgwick explores the long-standing conflict between Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and Vice President Aaron Burr. Matching each other’s ambition and skill as lawyers in New York, they later battled for power along political fault lines that would decide—and define—the future of the United States.

A series of letters between Burr and Hamilton suggests the duel was fought over an unflattering comment made at a dinner party. But another letter, written by Hamilton the night before the event, provides critical insight into his true motivation. It was addressed to former Speaker of the House Theodore Sedgwick, a trusted friend of both men, and the author’s own ancestor.

This list actually ended up decently long. I know I have more unread than read ones but hey, that’s the curse of being a book blogger! Let me know if you have read or want to read any of these!

Today, it is more important than ever that girls have the courage to be themselves. But societal pressures continue to push girls to conform—to look, think, and act a certain way despite their individuality.

From her most thought-provoking interviews with such influential role models as Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Amy Poehler, Kerry Washington, Sheryl Sandberg, Luvvie Ajayi, Arianna Huffington, Brittany Packnett, Natalie Portman, Stacey Abrams, and more, award-winning journalist Marianne Schnall brings together the most inspiring, captivating, and rousing quotes to shed light on the many ways girls can empower themselves. Representing a diverse group of women’s voices—from actresses, comedians, and musicians, to business leaders, elected officials, activists, and Nobel laureates—these words speak to a wide array of issues that young women are facing every day.

Dare to Be You is both rallying and uplifting, and is a valuable resource that conveys a timely and important message: When girls dare to be themselves—when they are fearless leaders, speak their truth, and believe in their dreams—they can truly change the world.

Did y’all ever read the Chicken Soup books? This book reminds me a lot of those books which I used to devour as a kid/young teen. This was just like that but without the longer stories. It was a quick read but I could understand how younger girls could gain from this. I think I am out of the age range that would best benefit from this book. I would recommend this for girls in middle school or early high school. It’s not bad in any means and the quotes/short stories from the women who shared are important for young girls to hear.

Author: Hannah Beckerman

Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers

Genre/s: Women’s fiction

Number of pages: 368

Release date: October 15th 2019

Audrey’s family has fallen apart. Her two grown-up daughters, Jess and Lily, are estranged, and her two teenage granddaughters have never been allowed to meet. A secret that echoes back thirty years has splintered the family in two, but is also the one thing keeping them connected.

As tensions reach breaking point, the irrevocable choice that one of them made all those years ago is about to surface. After years of secrets and silence, how can one broken family find their way back to each other?

All and all, this book was incredibly sad. Audrey has cancer and doesn’t seem to be getting better and her daughters are estranged for reasons Audrey doesn’t know. The relationship between Audrey and her granddaughters was what touched me the most.

In this book there were a lot of secrets. It definitely kept me on my toes with what was going on. For the first third of this book, I felt pretty confused about who was who and what was going on that had pulled the sisters apart. When they introduce the main conflict and what was behind the bedroom door, I was shocked. It almost felt like a suspense book since there are so many different sides to the story and everything is only revealed near the end of the book.

The conflict of this story centers around each person trying to protect one or more of the other characters but because of this, multiple misunderstandings occur which ultimately break the family apart. I think that everyone had their reasons for what they did and I don’t really blame any of them for making the choices they did. They all thought they were doing what was best.

This is the second book about cancer that I have read this month and honestly, I need a break. They are all so sad and heartbreaking. I hope to read some more upbeat books later this month.

Soul-Ripping Romance Tag

Leelynn tagged me in this and honestly, even if she hadn’t, I probably would have stolen it from her. Most of my ships are from TV Shows because that’s where I tend to get most attached to ships. So get ready to meet the couples, canon or mostly not, who own my heart.

  • Thank the person who tagged you and create a pingback to the original author – Nel at Reactionary Tales.
  • Share at least 5 (but more are welcome) romances that tugged your heartstrings. They can be from books, movies, TV shows, manga; anything you can think of! They can be examples of sad tears, angry tears, happy tears or a combination of all three.
  • Nominate 5 (or more) people to share their emotional traumas
  • (Note: Try not to spoil the story for your readers in case they would like to check out these romances on their own)

Tiva from NCIS

If you follow me on twitter, you’ll have noticed that I have been screaming about one Miss. Ziva David lately. Tony and Ziva were my first OTP at the ripe age of 13. I miss them so much and I can’t believe they have a FREAKING daughter. My heart HURTS when I think about them. Just look at them looking at each other.

Supercorp from Supergirl

Supercorp is one of my more recent ships. I’m weak AF for blonde and brunette couples (as you’ll see) and they mark all of my boxes. Angst, WLW, and a lot, a lot of love and now angst. I can’t explain how much I love them.

Brittana from Glee

Brittana was one of my other first couples I shipped. I was in high school and starting to realize that I liked girls so seeing them, especially when they got married, was so special to me.

River X The Doctor (but mostly 12) from Doctor Who

Best husband and wife duo in all of time and space. I didn’t ship River with 11 too much but I always get emotional about River/10 and River/12. She loves him so much that even without knowing it was him, she loved him. Honestly, I can’t think about it too hard without crying.

Whouffaldi from Doctor Who

Ugh. Clara Oswald was everything to me and I knew I was falling hard for her/12 as soon as Deep Breath aired. I was gutted at the end of Clara’s arc on the show and their goodbye.

Rizzles from Rizzoli and Isles

Another blondie and brunette wlw couple. Jane and Maura were best friends but there was clearly so much more between them. The fact that they were never canon was the biggest mistake this show made.

So there we are, six of my favorite TV couples! Do you watch any of these shows? Let me know!

Genre/s: Parenting & Families , Teens & YA

Number of pages: 384

Release Date: October 8th 2019

From the moment she first learned to read, literary genius Darcy Wells has spent most of her time living in the worlds of her books. There, she can avoid the crushing reality of her mother’s hoarding and pretend her life is simply ordinary. But when a new property manager becomes more active in the upkeep of their apartment complex, the only home Darcy has ever known outside of her books suddenly hangs in the balance.

While Darcy is struggling to survive beneath the weight of her mother’s compulsive shopping, Asher Fleet, a former teen pilot with an unexpectedly shattered future, walks into the bookstore where she works…and straight into her heart. For the first time in her life, Darcy can’t seem to find the right words. Fairy tales are one thing, but real love makes her want to hide inside her carefully constructed ink-and-paper bomb shelter.

Still, after spending her whole life keeping people out, something about Asher makes Darcy want to open up. But securing her own happily-ever-after will mean she’ll need to stop hiding and start living her own truth—even if it’s messy.

I really wanted to love this book. I wanted to love Darcy because I thought I would see myself in her. A girl who loses herself inside of stories so she can escape from her own life? She could be any of us. But for a reason that I’m not sure of, I didn’t. I also hate knowing that Darcy had to grow up/miss out on things because of her mother’s disorder. It seemed like she couldn’t take care of her daughter properly. I know they are supposed to be seen as close but I didn’t like their relationship.

What I did really love about this was Darcy and her best friend, Marisol! Marisol was so kind and loyal to Darcy. She took Darcy’s secrets and kept them safe. Also Marisol’s family was so amazingly kind to Darcy. I honestly teared up a few times during parts with them.

I will say I wasn’t 100% on board with Asher and Darcy almost the end of the book but I can see why people will love them.

Have you read this book? Do you plan to? Let me know below! I love hearing from y’all!!

Down The TBR || Part 5

I’m back with another one! Just like every other Saturday, we are going to be doing one of my favorite posts! Down the TBR!

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.

Order on ascending date added.

Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time

Read the synopses of the books

Decide: keep it or should it go?

I already know I’m not going to match or pass what I did last time, which was getting rid of six books. Looking at this group, I’m going to guess I will only take out 3-4 this week.

In the wake of her father’s death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. Consumed with grief, her only joy comes by the light of the dying hearth fire, rereading the fairy tales her mother once told her. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King’s Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash’s capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.

Entrancing, empowering, and romantic, Ash is about the connection between life and love, and solitude and death, where transformation can come from even the deepest grief.

For every girl who was ever told that she wasn’t good enough, beautiful enough, strong enough, brave enough, quiet enough, comes a story of a girl named Perish…a girl who is none of those things. Perish is an angry girl. A girl who will carve out a place to live in a world that does not want her. A girl who, despite a world against her…will learn to thrive.

Imagine “Beauty and the Beast” with a lesbian protaganist. Imagine a POC Beauty. Imagine a dark carnival of a palace, a beastly girl who dreams of love, a magic so dark and deadly that it could pull the world asunder. Imagine a fairy tale told in verse for every girl who couldn’t find someone like them in the fairy tales they loved…

I don’t think this book is for anyone because I can’t find any record of it actually existing?

hirteen-year-old Lizzie Hood and her next-door neighbor, Evie Verver, are inseparable, best friends who swap clothes, bathing suits, and field-hockey sticks and between whom, presumably, there are no secrets. Then one afternoon, Evie disappears, and as a rabid, giddy panic spreads through the balmy suburban community, everyone turns to Lizzie for answers. Was Evie unhappy, troubled, or upset? Had she mentioned being followed? Would she have gotten into the car of a stranger?

Compelled by curiosity, Lizzie takes up her own furtive pursuit of the truth. Haunted by dreams of her lost friend and titillated by her own new power as the center of the disappearance, Lizzie uncovers secret after secret and begins to wonder if she knew anything at all about her best friend.

There is one version of my story that everyone knows. And then there is the truth. This is how it happened. How I went from being Peter Pan’s first—and favorite—lost boy to his greatest enemy.

Peter brought me to his island because there were no rules and no grownups to make us mind. He brought boys from the Other Place to join in the fun, but Peter’s idea of fun is sharper than a pirate’s sword. Because it’s never been all fun and games on the island. Our neighbors are pirates and monsters. Our toys are knife and stick and rock—the kinds of playthings that bite.

Peter promised we would all be young and happy forever.

What if you could spend one last day with someone you lost?

One day Carver Briggs had it all—three best friends, a supportive family, and a reputation as a talented writer at his high school, Nashville Academy for the Arts.

The next day he lost it all when he sent a simple text to his friend Mars, right before Mars, Eli, and Blake were killed in a car crash.

Now Carver can’t stop blaming himself for the accident, and he’s not the only one. Eli’s twin sister is trying to freeze him out of school with her death-ray stare. And Mars’s father, a powerful judge, is pressuring the district attorney to open a criminal investigation into Carver’s actions.

Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli’s girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake’s grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a Goodbye Day with her to share their memories and say a proper goodbye to his friend.

Soon the other families are asking for a Goodbye Day with Carver, but he’s unsure of their motives. Will they all be able to make peace with their losses, or will these Goodbye Days bring Carver one step closer to a complete breakdown or—even worse—prison?

Dear Edie, I wanted you to know so many things. I wanted to tell you them in person, as you grew. But it wasn’t to be.

Jess never imagined she’d be navigating single motherhood, let alone while facing breast cancer. A life that should be just beginning is interrupted by worried looks, heavy conversations, and the possibility of leaving her daughter to grow up without her.

Propelled by a ticking clock, Jess knows what she has to do: tell her daughter everything. How to love, how to lose, how to forgive, and, most importantly, how to live when you never know how long you have.

From best-selling author Laura Pearson comes her most devastating book yet. Honest, heart-wrenching, and emotionally raw, I Wanted You To Know is a true love letter to life: to all its heartache and beauty, to the people we have and lose, to the memories and moments that define us.

This book was really sad! I was glad I had things to do in between reading this book because I would get teary eyed. It hurt so bad to know that Jess wasn’t going to get better. I kept hoping and hoping that something would happen but it never did.

One of my favorite things about this book was the unconventional family that they had. As soon as Jess told Gemma she was sick, Gemma really stepped up to help. She was constantly over watching with Edie or helping Jess get to her appointments or get things in order.

One thing I hated in this book was Jess’s mom. She grated my nerves so much. At one point she does something that I could not believe and I was furious. It feels like it gets swept under the rug and I am still fuming about it.

All and all, I would give this one three stars!
